Loose Bolt in Driver’s Seat Frame
A seat with a missing or loose bolt may not properly restrain the occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Summary
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Chevrolet Equinox and 2022 GMC Terrain vehicles. The driver’s seat may have a stripped or loose bolt at the seat frame height-adjust pivot.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the driver’s seat and replace the seat cushion frame, if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 4, 2022. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GMC’s number for this recall is N222377890.

Condition
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2022 – 2023 model year Chevrolet Equinox and 2022 model year GMC Terrain vehicles equipped with power driver seats that are not equipped with memory function. The driver seats in these vehicles may have a stripped or loose bolt at the seat frame height-adjust pivot. If the seat frame height-adjust pivot bolt comes out of the pivot joint, the seat structure may have reduced ability to restrain the occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Correction
Dealers will inspect driver seats and replace seat cushion frames if necessary.

Service Procedure
1. Adjust the driver’s seat to the highest upward and most rearward position, as shown above.
2. Locate the four Front Seat Vertical Adjuster Bracket Bolts (1), shown above.
- If all four bolts are in place, proceed to step 3.
- If any of the four bolts are missing replace the Front Seat Cushion Frame. Refer to Front Seat Cushion Frame Replacement in SI. Proceed to step 6.
Note: The gap is considered good if the feeler gauge can fit as shown in the center image of the graphic above but cannot go in far enough to touch the shaft of the bolt. The feeler may touch the outside diameter of the bushing, as shown in the center image of the graphic above but should not pass between the head of the bolt and the bushing flange, touching the shaft of the bolt as shown in the right image of the graphic above.
3. On all four bolts, check the gap between the Front Seat Vertical Adjuster Bracket Bolts (1) and the Front Seat Cushion Frame Bushing (3) using a 0.25 mm (0.010 inch) feeler gauge (2) as shown above.
- If the gap is less than 0.25 mm (0.010 Inch) on all four bolts, shown in the left and center image of the graphic above, proceed to step 5.
- If the gap is 0.25 mm (0.010 Inch) or more on any of the four bolts, shown in the right image of the graphic above, proceed to step 4.
4. Inspect the failed bolts for cross threading.
- If no cross threading is found, proceed to step 5.
- If cross threading is found, replace the Front Seat Cushion Frame. Refer to Front Seat Cushion Frame Replacement in SI. Proceed to step 6.
Caution: Minimize torque over-shoot. Too high of torque can strip the threads of a good bolt.
5. Torque all four bolts to 39 Nm (20 lb ft).
- If all four bolts achieve torque, proceed to step 6.
- If any of the four bolts do not achieve torque, replace the Front Seat Cushion Frame. Refer to Front Seat Cushion Frame Replacement in SI. Proceed to step 6.
6. Return the seat to the original location.

Courtesy transportation is available for customers whose vehicles are involved in this recall and are within the warranty coverage period for the warranty which is associated with this recall. Please refer to Warranty Administration Bulletin #17-NA-073: Field Action Courtesy Transportation Policy for further information.
Chronology :
During noise testing at GM’s assembly plant on July 15, 2022, a driver seat frame height-adjust pivot bolt was found on the floor of the test vehicle. This issue was submitted to GM’s Speak Up For Safety program that day.
On August 16, 2022, GM opened a formal investigation.
Inspections of vehicles at GM assembly plants and parts returned to the supplier identified stripped or loose pivot bolts in power seat frames produced by the supplier between June 30, 2022, and July 15, 2022. GM’s field-data analysis identified no field incidents associated with this condition. GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided to conduct a safety recall on September 22, 2022.

On all four bolts, check the gap between the Front Seat Vertical Adjuster Bracket Bolts (1) and the Front Seat Cushion Frame Bushing (3) using a 0.25 mm (0.010 inch) feeler gauge (2) as shown above. • If the gap is less than 0.25 mm (0.010 Inch) on all four bolts, shown in the left and center image of the graphic above, proceed to step 5. • If the gap is 0.25 mm (0.010 Inch) or more on any of the four bolts, shown in the right image of the graphic above, proceed to step 4. 4. Inspect the failed bolts for cross threading. • If no cross threading is found, proceed to step 5. • If cross threading is found, replace the Front Seat Cushion Frame. Refer to Front Seat Cushion Frame Replacement in SI. Proceed to step 6. Caution: Minimize torque over-shoot. Too high of torque can strip the threads of a good bolt. 5. The US National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act provides that each vehicle that is subject to a recall of this type must be adequately repaired within a reasonable time after the customer has tendered it for repair. A failure to repair within sixty days after tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. If the condition is not adequately repaired within a reasonable time, the customer may be entitled to an identical or reasonably equivalent vehicle at no charge or to a refund of the purchase price less a reasonable allowance for depreciation. To avoid having to provide these burdensome remedies, every effort must be made to promptly schedule an appointment with each customer and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. This issue was submitted to GM’s Speak Up For Safety program that day. On August 16, 2022, GM opened a formal investigation. Inspections of vehicles at GM assembly plants and parts returned to the supplier identified stripped or loose pivot bolts in power seat frames produced by the supplier between June 30, 2022, and July 15, 2022. GM’s field-data analysis identified no field incidents associated with this condition. GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided to conduct a safety recall on September 22, 2022. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Dealers will inspect driver seats and replace seat cushion frames if necessary. Pursuant to 49 C.F.R. § 573.13(d)(1), all covered vehicles are under warranty, so reimbursement is not offered. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Replacement seat cushion frames were produced outside of the supplier’s suspect build window. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Containment efforts were initiated at both tier-one and tier-two suppliers and at GM’s assembly plant on July 15, 2022.
