Information
Colorado ZR2 Bison Front Bumper Inflatable
Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
Calibration Details
Warning: Installation of the front bumper/skid plate
assembly on your non-Bison Chevrolet
Colorado
ZR2 vehicle may cause your vehicle’s airbags to
deploy in a way that differs from production intent,
and will also cause your vehicle to no longer
comply with Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208
(Occupant Crash Protection). Upon installation of
the front bumper/skid plate assembly on a
non-Bison vehicle, your vehicle’s airbag software
requires a calibration change to ensure the airbags
function as intended.
Please visit your Chevrolet
dealership to update the
Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
calibration available through Techline and the Service
Programming System (SPS) and for more information.
Contact the Techline Customer Support Center
Before reprogramming the SDM, call the Techline
Customer Support Center (TCSC) at 1-800-828-6860
(English). In Canada call 1–800–503–3222 (French).
The TCSC will provide programming requirements and
instructions. When calling the TCSC, please ensure the
specific vehicle VIN is available.
Reprogramming
Note: This calibration update is only applicable to
a Colorado 4WD built with RPO ZR2.
Reprogramming of the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and
Diagnostic Module must be done with the Service
Programming System at an Authorized GM Dealer. The
calibration does NOT include any hardware content.
1. Stable battery voltage is critical during
programming. Any fluctuation, spiking, over
voltage or loss of voltage will interrupt
programming. Install a battery maintainer or power
supply to maintain system voltage that provides a
steady and stable voltage. Do not use a battery
charger, as charging voltage will often fluctuate
when connected to the vehicle. This may interrupt
programing. If a battery maintainer is not available,
connect a fully charged 12 V jumper or booster
pack disconnected from the AC voltage supply.
Note: If the vehicle has been involved in a crash or
near deployment event it may not allow the SDM to
be reprogrammed without first being replaced.
2. Reprogram the inflatable restraint sensing and
diagnostic module. Refer to K36 Inflatable
Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module:
Programming and Setup in SI.
⇒ If an SPS failure message E4489 occurs during
reprogramming, do not call the TCSC
immediately. Record at which point the failure
occurred before it displayed the E4489
message. When this occurs, proceed to GDS2.
Download the appropriate vehicle configuration
and select the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and
Diagnostic Module. Under Identification
Information, observe these parameters:
Software Module 1 Identifier and Software
Module 2 Identifier. Record these parameter
values on the back of the job card. Go to
Step 3.
Page 2 July, 2019 Bulletin No.: 19-NA-144
3. If the parameters Software Module 1 Identifier and
Software Module 2 Identifier are populated with a
value of 1 or more, replace the Inflatable Restraint
Sensing and Diagnostic Module. Refer to Airbag
Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement
in SI.
4. Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification. Refer
to Diagnostic Repair Verification in SI.
Warranty Information
This upgraded SDM calibration is a customer pay
transaction and should not be submitted as a warranty
claim. A $75 Dealer Piece Cost for the Calibration will
be billed to the BARS/Open Account monthly via
Techline. The Dealer Statement will include the
17-character VIN, Part Number Reference, and Dealer
Piece Cost.
Reprogramming the SDM with this calibration maintains
the vehicle’s warranty.

Reprogramming
GM Diagnostic/Programming (TIS2Web)
Approved J2534 Device with TIS2WEB can reprogram 1996 and later All GM Modules.
To obtain the latest electronic controller calibration information for your vehicle, go to https://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web and enter the vehicle's 17 character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select 'Get CAL ID’.
You can then compare the latest part number with the actual number installed on the vehicle to determine if a reprogram is needed.
The Service Programming System (SPS) application is part of the TIS2Web system. To program an ECU, the SPS application must communicate with the vehicle control modules using the proper J2534 programming interface tool.
The Tech 2 supports model years 1996 and beyond. With the addition of the CAN Diagnostic Interface (CANdi) module, Tech 2 is fully backward compatible with current Tech 2 functionality and operates transparently when diagnosing non-CAN-equipped vehicles.
Servicing the next generation Global A vehicles will require the diagnostic software, GDS2, Global Diagnostic System 2 running on a local PC device while the MDI is connected to the vehicle. The GM MDI is the Global Diagnostic tool for future vehicles starting with Global A vehicles.
The GM MDI was introduced in the fall of 2007 for Pass-Thru programming and offers faster programming speed. It can be used to perform Pass-Thru programming on all vehicles built since 1996 and into the future. Click here to view a list of GDS supported vehicles.
