Subject: Supersession of Battery Energy Control Module (BECM)
Models: 2007 Saturn
VUE Green Line Hybrid
The Bulletin has been revised to update the repair procedure and Parts Information required
to complete the installation of the BECM. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number
10-06-130-001.
BECM Fan Electrical Connector Update
The original BECM assembly is being superseded to
the same part numbers used on the 2007-2009 AURA
vehicles.
To install this BECM, it may be necessary to modify
the new wire harness using the original fan harness
on the new BECM and reprogram the BDU.
1. Remove the BECM from the vehicle. Refer to
Battery Energy Control Module Replacement in SI
for installation procedures.
2. Disconnect the cooling fan connector on the
old BECM.
3. Verify if the electrical connector is a 1×4 or a 2×2.
• If the cooling fan connector is a 2×2 electrical
connector, the new BECM will connect without
any wire harness updates. Proceed to BECM to
Vehicle Electrical Connector Pigtail Update
below.
• If the cooling fan connector is a 1×4 cooling fan
electrical connector, continue to the next step.
Note: The BECM wiring harness pigtail and connector
will need to be removed and used on the new BECM.

4. Starting with the old BECM, cut the old fan wiring
harness 200–210 mm (7.9–8.27 in) from the 1×4
cooling fan electrical connector to create the fan
pigtail harness (A).
⇒ The pigtail will be used on the replacement
BECM wiring harness to connect the
cooling fan.

5. Starting with the new BECM, cut the fan wiring
harness 80–90 mm (3.15–3.54 in) from the 2×2
cooling fan electrical connector (B).

6. Remove the conduit and electrical tape from the
BECM harness.

Note: The overall length of the new harness should
measure approximately 200–210 mm (7.9–8.27 in)
from the cooling fan electrical connector towards the
new BECM (C).
7. Strip approximately 5.0 mm (0.20 in) of insulation
from each wire to be spliced.
8. Insert the wire into the salmon colored Dura Seal™
splice sleeve or equivalent, and crimp the splice
sleeve.
9. Ensuring that the wire color matches, insert the
corresponding wires of the BECM into the salmon
colored Dura Seal™ splice sleeve and crimp the
splice sleeve.
10. Measure the distance from the electrical connector
towards the BECM.

11. Using Woven Polyester Electrical Tape (PET), tape
the harness ensuring that the tape is applied in a
double layer extending along the harness past the
splice sleeves.
12. The replacement BECM must be programmed with
SPS after installation or DTC(s) will be set.
BECM to Vehicle Electrical Connector
Pigtail Update
1. Inspect the new BECM to vehicle wiring harness
for a 2×4 electrical connector, shorter 135 mm
(5.3 in) pigtail and if it will connect to the vehicle
harness through an existing jumper harness.
• If no splicing is necessary, proceed to install the
BECM into the vehicle. Refer to Battery Energy
Control Module Replacement in SI.
• If the BECM has the short pigtail and/or does
not connect to the vehicle harness, proceed to
the next step.

Note: For vehicles equipped with the original BECM,
with wiring harness electrical connector 850 mm
(33.5 in) away, cut the pigtail at the BECM plastic
grommet. This pigtail will be used on the replacement
BECM wiring harness.
2. Starting with the old BECM, cut the harness at the
grommet.

3. Starting with the new BECM, cut the wiring
harness near the electrical connector.

4. Remove the conduit and electrical tape from the
BECM harness.

Note: The overall length of the new harness should
measure approximately 830–820 mm (32.7–32.3 in)
from the electrical connector towards the new BECM.
5. Strip approximately 5.0 mm (0.20 in) of insulation
from each wire to be spliced.
6. Ensuring that the wire color matches, insert the
wire into the salmon colored Dura Seal™ splice
sleeve or equivalent, and crimp the splice sleeve.

Reprogramming
GM Diagnostic/Programming (TIS2Web)
Approved J2534 Device with TIS2WEB can reprogram 1996 and later All GM Modules.
To obtain the latest electronic controller calibration information for your vehicle, go to https://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web and enter the vehicle's 17 character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select 'Get CAL ID’.
You can then compare the latest part number with the actual number installed on the vehicle to determine if a reprogram is needed.
The Service Programming System (SPS) application is part of the TIS2Web system. To program an ECU, the SPS application must communicate with the vehicle control modules using the proper J2534 programming interface tool.
The Tech 2 supports model years 1996 and beyond. With the addition of the CAN Diagnostic Interface (CANdi) module, Tech 2 is fully backward compatible with current Tech 2 functionality and operates transparently when diagnosing non-CAN-equipped vehicles.
Servicing the next generation Global A vehicles will require the diagnostic software, GDS2, Global Diagnostic System 2 running on a local PC device while the MDI is connected to the vehicle. The GM MDI is the Global Diagnostic tool for future vehicles starting with Global A vehicles.
