This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that after opening the power liftgate, it will not stay in the full open position and may drift down a few inches before coming to a rest. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern
A customer may comment that, after opening the power liftgate, it will not stay in the full open position and may drift down a few inches before coming to a rest.
Recommendation/Instructions
This may be caused by the incorrect strut mounting brackets installed on the vehicle. Check on the liftgate mounting brackets for a letter P or M stamped on the bracket. P is for a power liftgate system and M is for a Manual liftgate system. If Manual strut mount brackets are found on the vehicle, replace with the correct bracket(s) for power liftgate.
