Condition
Some customers may comment on an inoperative or an intermittent A/C (Air Conditioning) system.
They may also comment on an engine hesitation, misfire or surge.
The technician may find DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) P0530 stored as a current or history code.
Cause
This condition may be caused by an A/C pressure sensor wiring harness that may be too short.
During normal driving conditions, the movement of the engine may momentarily break the electrical connection at the sensor or disconnect the A/C pressure sensor wiring harness.
Correction
Replace the existing A/C pressure sensor electrical connector and harness using connector service kit, P/N 12102748.
The use of this kit will allow the A/C pressure sensor wiring harness to be lengthened. Use the following procedure to install the connector service kit:
- Open the hood and install fender covers.
- Locate the A/C pressure sensor and the pressure sensor wiring harness. Refer to the arrow in the illustration above.
- Disconnect the A/C pressure sensor connector.
- Use the contents of the connector service kit to replace the A/C pressure sensor connector and lengthen the pressure sensor wiring harness. Use the wiring on the connector in the service kit to add approximately 150 mm (6 in) to the length of the current pressure sensor wiring harness. Wrap the new wiring harness with electrical tape.
- Reconnect the A/C pressure sensor connector to the A/C pressure sensor.
- Route the A/C pressure sensor wiring harness so that there is enough slack in the harness that normal engine movement will not pull the A/C pressure sensor connector loose. Tie strap the pressure sensor wiring harness to the A/C compressor inlet hose. Make sure that the harness is routed away from any moving parts or sharp edges.
- Use the Tech2 to clear any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) that may have been set. Start the engine and verify that the A/C compressor engages.
- Remove the fender covers and close the hood.
