Summary
THIS TECHNICAL BULLETIN PROVIDES A PROCEDURE TO INSTALL AN AIR INLET DEFLECTOR OVER THE HVAC AIR INLET TO CORRECT WATER LEAKING ON THE FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR DUE TO WATER RUNNING DOWN THE WINDSHIELD UNDER THE AIR INLET GRILLE PANEL, ENTERING THE BODY AIR INLET OF THE HVAC SYSTEM.
Condition/Concern
Some customers may comment on water leaking on the front passenger floor during a hard rain or snow melt off when the vehicle is on an incline. This condition may be caused by water running down the windshield under the air inlet grille panel, entering the body air inlet of the HVAC system.
Recommendation/Instructions
Install an air inlet deflector over the HVAC air inlet following the procedure below:
1. Remove the passenger side air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement in SI.
2. Clean the surface around the HVAC air inlet and the back of the air inlet deflector where it will contact the dash panel with LORD Fusor 703 Adhesion Prep/Cleaner or equivalent.
Important: Trial fit the deflector to understand where the adhesive will be bonding along with the installation path of the part during assembly.
3. Using LORD Fusor 602EZ Surface Modifier, spray one light coat to the dash panel and air inlet deflector.
Important: Allow a MIN time of 10 minutes for the surface modifier to dry before moving onto the next step.
4. Insert LORD Fusor 143 Plastic Repair Adhesive into the applicator.
4.1. Onto a disposable surface, squeeze the applicator trigger until both parts of the adhesive comes out and wipe the excess.
4.2. Screw on the mixing nozzle and squeeze out about a nozzle length of the adhesive.
5. Apply the 143 Plastic Repair Adhesive above the foam on the backside of the deflector and install over the HVAC air inlet. The bead size should be 1/4”
to 3/8” in diameter. The new deflector should be held firmly in position for 1 minute.
Important: Once the adhesive has been purged from the mixing nozzle, working time is about 1 minute. Begin applying the adhesive immediately and be sure and have the deflector near the HVAC air inlet.
