Summary
This informational bulletin advises the tech on how to check the oil on the new vehicles.
Information
2023 LZ0 powered vehicles are being shipped with an extra quart of oil in the crankcase.
This extra oil is only required for the first factory fill.
– Do not add oil above the full mark on the dipstick.
– When filling the oil after the first oil change, refer to SI for the amount of oil that should be used.
This raises the concern that if the engine oil is checked on a new vehicle that the dipstick will look dry when the actual oil level will be above the dipstick bullet and on the cable making it difficult to see.
Please follow the Service Procedure below to check the oil.

Please follow the Service Procedure below to check the oil. Important: Service agents must comply with all International, Federal, State, Provincial, and/or Local laws applicable to the activities it performs under this bulletin, including but not limited to handling, deploying, preparing, classifying, packaging, marking, labeling, and shipping dangerous goods. In the event of a conflict between the procedures set forth in this bulletin and the laws that apply to your dealership, you must follow those applicable laws. Service Procedure To get an accurate reading, park the vehicle on level ground. Check the engine oil level after the engine
has been off for at least two hours. Checking the engine oil level on steep grades or too soon after engine
shutoff can result in incorrect readings. Accuracy improves when checking a cold engine
prior to starting. Remove the dipstick and check the level. If unable to wait two hours, the engine
must be off for at least 15 minutes if the engine
is warm, or at least 30 minutes if the engine
is not warm. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a clean paper towel or cloth, then push it back in all the way. Remove it again, keeping the tip down, and check the level. If you are having difficulty reading the oil level on the dipstick, it may be useful to roll the end of the dipstick on a dry paper towel to determine if the oil level is on the bullet or the cable. Version 1 Modified Released September 27, 2022 GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a “do-it-yourselfer”. They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. WE SUPPORT VOLUNTARY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION
