Condition Some customers may comment on hearing a rattle or creak noise coming from the
quarter panel area while traveling at highway speed.
Cause

Note: The contact area is shown circled in yellow in the graphic above.
The cause of the condition may be that the lower quarter extension may have
interference contact with the rocker panel, creating the noise.
Correction
Verify which side has the condition and adjust the quarter panel extension to obtain
clearance between the extension and rocker panel. Follow the steps in the Service
Procedure below.

Service Procedure

1. On the affected side, locate the lower bolt (1) that
holds the quarter panel and extension.
2. Loosen the bolt.

3. Pull outboard on the extension in order to achieve
a 1 mm clearance between the extension and the
rocker panel.
4. Hold in this clearance position and retighten
the bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 9Y(80 lb in).
