Condition
Some customers may notice that when they open a door, water may have become trapped on the sill
plate between the body and the door seals. If the outside temperatures are below freezing, the
water may freeze on the sill plate, as shown in the picture below (1).
Cause
This concern may be caused by the door water barrier/deflector butyl not being sealed to the door.
When inspecting the bottom of the door, water stains may be
found coming from below the door trim panel, as shown below (2).

Correction:
– With the door open and window up, water test the vehicle by pouring water along the outside
window belt molding.
– Inspect for water leaking out from below the door trim panel.
– If water is found leaking out from underneath the panel, remove the door trim panel for further
inspection.
– With the door trim panel removed, inspect for water droplets on the door sheet metal, as shown
below (3). This will give you an idea/area where the door water barrier/deflector is not sealed
properly, as shown below (4). If the door water barrier/deflector is gently pulled away from the
door it will come free with little effort, which is an indication it was not sealed to the door
properly.
– Dry any water from the door and reinstall the door water barrier/deflector.
– With the door water barrier/deflector in place, use a roller or socket to help seal the water
barrier/deflector butyl to the door.
– Reassemble the door trim panel and water test the door again to confirm the vehicle has been
repaired.
