Summary
This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on how to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have a fuel gauge that does not read below half a tank. Technician will gain access to the fuel pump and inspect to see if the level sender contacting the side of the fuel tank. The fuel tank fuel pump module fuel level sensor will need to be replaced for this concern.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this
PI.
Condition / Concern
The technician may report after in tank service the fuel gauge will not go over 1/2 tank or will
not go below 1/2 tank.
Recommendations / Instructions
Inspect the fuel level sender and verify it is in the correct slot of the fuel module. In the
picture below, the left fuel module reflects the correct location where as the right fuel module
reflects the incorrect position. Install sender in correct slot to repair.
The picture below is a cut away of the right fuel module indicating the level sender
contacting the side of the fuel tank.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition
exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be
performed.
