Condition/Concern
Some customers may comment that the radio screen is blank, locked-up or is frozen. However, the radio audio may still be heard. This may have led to a battery drain at one point in which the issue is resolved afterwards. No OnStar interaction is required to get into this state.
Recommendation/Instructions
If the vehicle is currently in this state, a press of the call answer/end button on the mirror will temporarily correct the concern. Do NOT replace any parts at this time.
Technicians should check the OnStar module software version by performing the following the steps.
- In GDS2 select Telematic Control Module.
- Select Module Information and view the Firmware Over The Air Version.
If the version is 6708 or Lower — Connect to OnStar and verify account status (via blue button press). If account is closed, request to be transferred to OSTA (OnStar Technical Assistance) and ask to activate with a free 3 months core package. Once the account is activated, it will be necessary for the customer to accept the terms and conditions in order to receive the latest OTA firmware update (6948 at this time). For Fleet Vehicles, it will be necessary for the fleet manager/coordinator to accept the term and conditions. If the customer will not accept the terms and conditions to receive the latest Over the Air update designed to address this concern, please do not replace any parts as engineering is currently evaluating other methods to repair this concern without an active OnStar account.
If the version is 6948 — the module has received the latest OTA firmware update and normal SI diagnosis should be followed to isolate the root cause.

- OEM MIRROR: Master Tailgaters rear view mirrors completely replace your original rearview mirror! The included mount works with your Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, or Cadillac vehicle. A universal windshield mount is also included which allows this unit to be installed on your vehicle. It hooks into the existing wire for your OnStar services, so it will only work if you have an existing OnStar installation in your car and are paying for the OnStar service.
- LCD SCREEN: The mirror is 10.5", with a 4.3" ultra high brightness TFT LCD screen that automatically turns on to display the rear view image when your vehicle is put in reverse. It is twice as bright as standard mirrors, and the LCD display sensor adjusts the screen's brightness to the ambient light so it's easier to see, brighter when it's light outside and dimmer when it's dark out. There are also adjustable guidelines for added safety, which can be adjusted using the included remote.
- TWO VIDEO INPUTS: With 2 video RCA inputs, you are able to display 2 different types of images. One connects to video and the other connects to a backup camera (not included). HIGH QUALITY MIRROR: Our rear view mirror's glass is 4mm thick, making it clear and distortion-free/warp-free.
- ONSTAR FUNCTIONS: This rear view mirror is equipped with 3 convenient OnStar buttons with the same functions are your car's existing buttons -- hands free calling, OnStar customer service, and emergency. Your vehicle must have an existing OnStar installation and service for the buttons to work.
- CONNECT TO BACKUP CAMERA: The rearview mirror plugs into most backup cameras with RCA Inputs (Backup Camera Sold Separately). All parts needed for installation are included and easy to set up!
