The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this
PI.
Condition / Concern
A customer or technician installing accessories on the bed rail caps may notice the rails are not
as wide at the rear of the pickup bed as they are at the front of the bed. This is typically
noticed after the installation of GM Accessory Soft Folding or Soft Roll-Up Tonneau Cover rails.
Some may think the accessory install was incorrect or that parts of the accessory kit are
damaged.
Recommendations / Instructions
IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to repair or replace parts for this condition.
The changing width of the bed rail cap is by design and part of the sleek appearance of the truck;
no repairs are necessary to correct it.
Because the bed rail caps narrow as they go toward the rear of the vehicle, and the tonneau cover
rails maintain a rectangle shape, the narrowing of the bed rail caps is highlighted and more
noticeable.

Please communicate to the customer this condition is a normal design characteristic of their
vehicle. It will not impact the designed performance or reliability of the vehicle. Please share
this information with the customer, including a copy of this message.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition
