how do I get the reimbursement form to turn in for this special coverage, converter replacement. I have already had the work done before I knew this was an option.
See “Customer Reimbursement” section.
My dealership confirmed the 420 code, but because I had issues with oil consumption on my 2011 equinox they wanted to address the first before changing the converter. I can understand that. Had them check oil levels after oil change every 500 miles. Even though it did eat 1 quart of old still passed the oil consumption test. I reminded them of the check engine light on last oil check, and they did look it up again and saw yes I had the code and scheduled and did replace the converter. I originally paid for their scan to see the 420 code, and was never reimbursed for the diagnostic fee even after bringing it up. They said the do charge for diagnosing when it is under special coverage. I also think 1 quart is too much oil loss for 2000 miles, but screw it. I don’t trust them to work on my car anymore and will stay away from the dealer.
so my manifold cracks and ruins my catalytic converter and chevy will pay for repair to converter but not repair what caused the problem says THATS my problem ?
Make an complaint with the NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/
I have a 2011 Equinox and the engine light is on, it showed the code P0420, i need to replacement the Catalytic Converter, however the website https://my.gm.com/recalls doesn’t show the recall for my car, how should i talk to the dealer, they are going to charge me $1500 for replacement?
Most likely you will need a new Catalytic Converter, unless you have exhaust leak. This is a Special Coverage Program, so it most likely will not show up under recalls. Go to your local GM Dealer and talk to them, and ask them if your vehicle is covered.
tony, this codes for repair are listed under warranty not under recall…
My Catalytic Converter now needs to be replaced. When I initially got my Exhaust Manifold repaired and replaced, I was not informed of this recall and I never received the letter. Now my vehicle is at 130k miles and every visit to the dealership has either been for my check engine light or oil change. My engine sounds abnormally rough and runs idle occasionally with my son in the car. It seems as if the dealership only acknowledges minimal services and waits for customers to come back. Will a replacement catalyst converter be covered for my vehicle?
You will have to check with the dealer, maybe try to find another dealer. You can make an complaint with the NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/
My mother is a 75 year old widow who just paid to have this replaced on her 2011 Terrain with 98,000 miles on it at a local repair shop because we never received the letter. We only found this because she wanted to write a letter to GM to ask that it be covered after having the oil consumption issues with the piston rings. Not saying the letter was not sent just that she did not receive it. I just got off the phone with GM Customer Service about an hour ago – reimbursement refused because it is after the 8/2017 reimbursement deadline. Really wish we would have received the letter; quite disappointed.
I have a 2010 equinox with a 3.0 engine and I am having the same problem with the p0420 code. Is this engine also covered?
You can check here https://my.gm.com/recalls if your vehicle has any open recalls.
Did you find a resolution for your 2010 equinox with a 3.0 engine p0420 code issue? I am having the same problem on my exact vehicle.
I checked this site and it says no recalls for the 2010 equinox with a 3.0 engine for p0420 code. Would the above 15810-01: Special Coverage issue fall under this?
I have a 2012 GMC Terrain AWD 2.4L. Engine light came on and I checked the codes. I replaced both O2 sensors. The upstream sensor was blown out. It looked like someone fired a bullet right out of the tip. That close to the engine it has to be thermal damage. Now that the sensors are replaced i’m getting the P0420 code which is for the catalytic convertor. Is this covered? I tried using the recall site and there are no recalls for my Terrain.
You can check here https://my.gm.com/recalls if your vehicle has any open recalls or service actions
I lost my letter I got about this last year I wasn’t having a problem then now I am and need this fixed can I get it fixed without the letter with this notice?
yes, they check the VIN to make sure your vehicle covered, and you can check here too https://my.gm.com/recalls
My Catylic Converter broke off I have a 2011 GMC Terrain when I called the dealer ship they said u don’t have a recall on it. Who can I talk to to find ou5 for sure if my vehicle has a recall.
You can check here https://my.gm.com/recalls if your car has any open recalls or service actions.
I don’t think you are listening to everyone. The “Special Coverage” recalls don’t show up under my.gm.com/recalls.
What year and motor size on the 2010 terrain is this for
2010-2011 2.4L
So if I’m over the 120000 miles my car wouldn’t be covered?
Usually not.
So was there a recall? Should I have received a letter from GM like they usually do with a recall?
This is not a recall, but you should of gotten a letter from GM.
The dealership changed the catalytic converter and told me my O2 sensors were bad and the exhaust manifold was cracked but wanted to charge me for parts.
Should Chevy cover the cost of the O2 sensors and exhaust manifold under this warranty?
No, this covers only catalytic converter.
I paid to have my exhaust manifold replace and now 3 days My engine light came on. I took my car back to Chevy. They told me it’s my catalytic converter and O2 sensor. They are willing to repair the catalytic converter under the special coverage warranty but not the O2 sensor. Shouldn’t all this be covered?
This only covers catalytic converter, the O2 sensors don’t usually go bad in newer low mileage cars, unless it was damaged.
Are there any details which outline the eligibility that describe the thermal damage and face erosion? I.e. weld damage, damaged/clogged internal components, etc. When I scanned the vehicle after the check engine light came on, it threw the code P0420-Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1. Is it at the tech’s discretion as far as what is considered thermal damage or face erosion or are there specific details that describe the eligibility requirements of thermal damage and face erosion?
No further details, I be-leave P0420 is enough for them to cover the Catalytic Converter, as long as there are no exhaust leaks.
My GM dealer is asking 1500 $ to change catalyst convertor in my 2010 equinox. This dealer is feel like not genuine dealer.
I would try another dealer, and you can file a complaint with the NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/
