An EGR Cooler Pressure Tester Adapter Set, EN-48974, was shipped essential to dealers in December 2007 to diagnose EGR cooler engine coolant leaks on all Duramax™ engines equipped with an EGR system. This adapter set is designed to be used with J-46091-1 – Charge Air Cooler Tester Regulator to pressurize the EGR cooler with shop air and monitor it for leakage.
Important: Leaks from the EGR cooler may allow coolant to pass through the exhaust system and enter the combustion chambers on the right bank cylinders. Failure to inspect the EGR cooler for leaks may lead to a misdiagnosis for coolant in the combustion chamber.

Important: If an investigation of loss of engine coolant leads to coolant found in one or multiple cylinders on the right bank, YOU MUST test the EGR cooler
for leakage BEFORE attempting any engine repair. The cylinders affected will depend on which exhaust valves were open at the time of engine shutdown.
1. Partially drain the engine coolant to allow removal of the EGR cooler coolant hoses. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in SI.
2. Select the appropriate size EGR Cooler Hose Adapter from the EN-48974 – EGR Cooler Pressure Tester Adapter Set.
3. Install the EGR Cooler Hose Adapter (1) and tighten the clamp (2) on the EGR cooler hose barb as shown.
4. Select the appropriate size Cap Plug(s) from the EN-48974 – EGR Cooler Pressure Tester Adapter Set.
2
5. Install the Cap Plug(s) (1) and tighten the clamp(s) (2) on the EGR cooler hose barb(s) as shown.
6. Connect the hose fitting (1) of pressure tester J-46091-1 Charge Air Cooler Tester Regulator to the EGR Cooler Hose Adapter (2) on the EGR cooler
as shown.
Important: SOME J-46091-1 REGULATORS MAY BE PRESET AT 30 PSI WITH THE ADJUSTING KNOB RIVETED IN PLACE. THE RIVET HEAD
MUST BE DRILLED OUT WITH A 5/16” DRILL BIT BEFORE ADJUSTMENT. DO NOT DRILL MORE THAN 1/8” IN DEPTH, OR JUST ENOUGH TO
REMOVE THE RIVET HEAD. THE RIVET SHAFT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE REGULATOR.
7. Back off the regulator on J-46091-1 – Charge Air Cooler Tester Regulator by turning counterclockwise until it stops.
8. Connect J-46091-1 – Charge Air Cooler Tester Regulator to the shop air supply.
9. Open the shutoff valve, then slowly turn the regulator on J-46091-1 clockwise until the gauge reads 42 psi.
10. Close the shutoff valve on J-46091-1 and monitor the gauge for pressure decay for 5 minutes.
⇒ If the gauge indicates pressure decay, replace the EGR cooler.
⇒ If the gauge does not indicate pressure decay, proceed to Step 11.
11. Continue performing the engine diagnosis to determine the source of the coolant leak.
12. Install the EGR cooler. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve and Cooler Installation in SI.
13. Fill the engine coolant to the proper level. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in SI.

- Quick Leak Detection for Trucks: Orion Motor Tech's Turbo System Leakage Tester Kit helps you quickly detect air leaks in your truck's system, improving fuel efficiency & keeping your engine running smoothly. Note: Do not set the pressure above 30 psi
- Complete Tool Set: This all-in-one CAC leakage tester kit comes with everything you need for quick, accurate leak testing: two billet end caps, three pressure gauges, an extension line kit with a ball valve and pressure regulator, and all the accessories
- Fits Class 7 & 8 Trucks: Whether you're working on a fleet or your personal truck, this turbo boost leak tester set includes billet end caps with 4 in., 3.5 in., and 3 in. steps, making it compatible with a wide range of Class 7 and Class 8 trucks
- Accurate, Reliable Results: Thanks to its glycerin-filled shockproof gauges and nonslip billet end caps, you can trust that every pressure reading is precise and steady. No more worrying about vibrations or leaks affecting your testing accuracy
- Built for Durability: Made with rugged 6061 aluminum alloy and corrosion-resistant stainless steel, this CAC charge air cooler pressure tester is tough enough to handle daily use and tough environments, making it a must-have for any serious truck owner
- Charge Air Cooler CAC Boost Leak Tester: For leakage issues in vehicle turbocharging and air cooling systems, this detector can accurately and quickly locate the leak point, facilitating timely repairs — not only avoiding reduced boost pressure, power loss, and abnormal increase in oil consumption, but also effectively reducing the risk of engine damage and ensuring the vehicle operates stably and reliably.
- Professional Tools: This kit includes 1pc three-way quick conversion connector, 2pc billet end caps (4" 3.5" 3"), 2pc 60 psi pressure gauge, 2pc thread seal tape, 1pc manual pressure release valve, 1pc US standard air connector, 1pc EU standard air connector, 1pc JP standard air connector, 1pc quick-connect plug, 1pc 5ft extension line with a ball valve and pressure regulator.
- Wide Application: Suitable for Class 7 and Class 8 heavy-duty trucks, tractors, and other heavy equipment. (Note: All connections must be disconnected during pressure testing to eliminate safety hazards caused by high-pressure air leakage. After testing, the reset operation is also easy, leaving no oil residue or damaging the system.)
- Easy to Use: The kit includes two 60psi pressure gauges and stepped billet end caps (3" 3.5" 4"). Simply clamp the hose connectors to both ends of the boost side pipeline, and you can perform a system pressure/leak test. Three pressure gauges provide accurate readings, making it easy to diagnose tiny long-term leaks. The regulator controls the test pressure to prevent overpressure damage to the system. The 5Ft. extension hose comes with an air on/off valve and a pressure regulator, which can safely and accurately reduce the source pressure to a reasonable level, making it easy to check for leaks. The kit comes with US/EU/JP standard air connectors, compatible with various air source systems.
- Pressure Gauge with Pressure Relief Valve and Regulator: This charge air cooler (CAC) tester kit comes with a 0-6 bar (0-87 psi) pressure gauge with pressure regulator and pressure relief valve, and you can adjust the pressure to the desired level for testing the system. If the pressure is too high, you can reduce the air pressure by pulling the valve (automatic pressure relief when the pressure exceeds 2.5 Bar) to prevent damage to the system due to excessive pressure. (Note: Do not set the pressure above 30 psi)
