The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern
A technician may find that when performing a DTC check using a scan tool they may find that the Multi-axis Acceleration Sensor Module has a DTC U0121 (Loss of Communication with the EBCM) set in history. If the DTC is cleared, they may find the DTC sets again and immediately goes to history during the next ignition cycle. No messages or MIL will display on the IPC.
Recommendation/Instructions
Important: Do NOT replace any components for this condition.
This is a characteristic of normal operation. At key-up the Multi-axis Acceleration Sensor Module is looking for a response from the EBCM right away, that it does not receive so it sets the DTC U0121 momentarily and then goes to history when it does.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
