The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern

Some owners may comment of the paint peeling above the Anti-chip area, example shown below.

Note: Process revisions were made at the vehicle assembly plant to resolve this issue effective 5/15/2014.

Recommendation/Instructions

If a vehicle comes in for this concern, a test should be performed on the remaining panels using the following

This test should only be conducted on a vehicle exhibiting this condition and performed above the Anti-Chip area. On a clean surface, at or above room temperature, firmly apply a 2″ wide piece of masking tape to the body, and pull upward quickly. Do not use duct tape, cloth backed tape, or other aggressive tapes. If the paint flakes or peels away, the panel in question should be repaired.

Refinish the affected areas using the appropriate material supplied by the refinish material supplier being used by the repair facility for finish repairs.

Note: Only repaint the affected areas. Panels that pass the test described above should not be repaired.

Note: All paint finish repairs of rigid exterior surfaces must meet GM standards. Refer to the latest revision of the GM Approved Refinish Materials book to identify the paint systems you may use that have been engineered to meet GM standards. The GM Approved Refinish Materials book supplies all approved products, including volatile organic compound (VOC) compliant regulations recommended by the individual manufacturer, and detailed procedures for materials used in their paint system.

Warranty Information

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
