Cause The cause of the condition may be that the foam tape seal on the rear spoiler is improperly installed and is detaching from the underside of the spoiler. Correction R & R the rear spoiler and replace the seal with a new service part, following the steps in the Service Procedure below. Service Procedure Important: Service agents must comply with all International, Federal, State, Provincial, and/or Local laws applicable to the activities it performs under this bulletin, including but not limited to handling, deploying, preparing, classifying, packaging, marking, labeling, and shipping dangerous goods. In the event of a conflict between the procedures set forth in this bulletin and the laws that apply to your dealership, you must follow those applicable laws. Bulletin No.: 22-NA-004 September, 2022 Page 3 5491612 1. Remove the rear spoiler (3) from the vehicle. Refer to Rear End Spoiler Replacement in SI. 2. Lay the spoiler on a protected work surface. 5950654 3. Remove the spoiler foam tape seal from the spoiler. Page 4 September, 2022 Bulletin No.: 22-NA-004 5950655 5950657 4. Using Kent Automotive Acrysol, or equivalent, remove any backing tape or residue from the spoiler. 5950662 Bulletin No.: 22-NA-004 September, 2022 Page 5 5. Final clean the surface with an alcohol wipe. 5950666 Note: Make sure the spoiler surface is clean and dry before attempting to install the new seal. 6. Inspect the surface to ensure all residual foam seal tape and adhesive has been removed. 5950668 7. Note the proper positioning of the foam tape seal. Approximately 3 mm (5/64”) from the curved contour (1), and approximately 5 mm (3/16”) from the end (2). 5950670 8. Partially peel the backing tape from the new foam tape seal and position the starting end, as shown in the graphic above. This could result in gaps or puckers and the seal not adhering tight to the spoiler in areas. 9. Slowly position and push down on the seal installing it to the flat, curved contour of the spoiler. 5950677 10. Verify the foam tape seal is completely adhered to the rear spoiler surface, paying special attention to the corners, ends, and areas where the contour changes. 5950680 11. The foam tape seal may require trimming at the finishing end. Bulletin No.: 22-NA-004 September, 2022 Page 7 5950681 12. The spoiler mounting surface on the liftgate may require cleaning before spoiler reinstall. Clean using GM P/N 19370290 glass cleaner, or equivalent. 5491612 13. Reinstall the rear spoiler (3). Refer to Rear End Spoiler Replacement in SI.
