Condition
When Accessory 22″ Wheels (RPO SES, SEU, SEY, or SEZ) are installed, or any service requiring wheel removal (including RPO RPT or SMI), the tinnerman push nuts, example shown below on a rear brake rotor, will need to be removed. The tinnerman push nuts are only used to hold the brake rotors on the axle during assembly and serve no purpose after assembly.
Cause Failure to remove the tinnerman push nuts could cause an issue where the wheel will no longer be flush when it is mounted to the rotor hub face and secured. This may create lateral runout, inducing a vibration.
Correction:
Prior to the installation of GM Accessory Wheels (RPO SES, SEU, SEY, or SEZ) or during service of production 22″ wheels (RPO RPT or SMI), make sure that the tinnerman nuts have been removed and discarded. If diagnosing a vibration concern and the vehicle is equipped with these accessory/production wheels, inspect to make sure the tinnerman nuts have been removed.
