All new, used, GM Certified Used, courtesy transportation vehicles, dealer shuttle vehicles, etc. in dealers’ possession and subject to this recall must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this bulletin before customers take possession of these vehicles. Involved vehicles must be held and not delivered to customers, dealer-traded, released to auction, used for demonstration, or any other purpose.
All GM Certified Used vehicles currently in the dealers’ inventory within the Certified Pre-Owned Inventory System (CPOIS) will be de-certified and must be held and remedied per the service procedure in this bulletin. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. A copy of the customer letter is provided in this bulletin for your use in contacting customers. Recall follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.

***THE FOLLOWING 2 PARAGRAPHS ARE NOT FOR CANADA OR EXPORT***
When a California emissions recall is completed by a GM dealer, the dealer must provide the vehicle owner a “Proof of Correction Certificate” which the owner may need to present to the California Department Of Motor Vehicles (DMV) when renewing their vehicle registration. Without this correction certificate, the owner may be unable to renew their vehicle registration.
Additional Certificates can be obtained, at no charge, from the 1Store application in GlobalConnnect. Request GM Item Number 1825 when ordering.
Dealer Reports
For dealers with involved vehicles, a listing with involved vehicles has been prepared and will be provided to U.S. and Canadian dealers through the GM GlobalConnect Recall Reports, or sent directly to export dealers. The listing may contain customer names and addresses obtained from Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any purpose other than follow-up necessary to complete this recall is a violation of law in several states/provinces/countries. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this report to the follow-up necessary to complete this recall.
Customer Notification
USA & Canada – General Motors will notify customers of this recall on their vehicle (see copy of customer letter included with this bulletin).
In order to ensure full protection under the emission warranty, and the right to participate in future recalls, the customer notification letter recommends that customers have their vehicles serviced as soon as possible. It also advises that failure to do so could legally be determined to be lack of proper maintenance. The vehicle may fail a state or local emission inspection test if the recall work is not completed.
Export – Letters will be sent to known owners of record located within areas covered by the US National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. For owners outside these areas, dealers should notify customers using the attached sample letter.

I am having similar issue on 2011 Chevy Equinox LT and I found this recall about the fuel pump. I called GM and they said there is no such recall. UGH. Engine is running rough and making ticking noise and idling horribly. Smelling gas inside car also. UGH.

This is very interesting. We bought a 2010 Terrain 2.4L from Wheaton Chev Olds |(used) . We have called to check if there is a recall or was a recall on the fuel pump for this model . They informed us that there was no such recall? We have been dealing with codes P0089, P0016, P228D . When I called to the service department to inquire how serious these codes were. I was told that the codes mean nothing to him and he can’t help. If I want to check a recall then he would need 3 years of service records? I thought this is a recall? I do realize we are late in responding ….. but when you are told there is no recall , we bought it used and did not receive the letter and the vehicle has been in safe mode reduce power for 1 week now ? We are told by Wheaton Chev Olds in Regina Sk Canada that they can not help us and he doesn’t care about the google codes it means nothing to him? I am really at a loss as what to do short of paying 1000.00 or so for the fuel pump replacement?
I would like to know if you will still honor the recall ?

This is an Emission Recall, only the dealer can tell if there is an open recall. Try another dealer, ask if there are any open recalls and past recalls for your VIN.

Gasoline diluted engine oil destroys the engine internal parts. The gas will wash the metal surfaces including the cylinder sleeves which causes the piston rings not to seal causing heavy oil usage not to mention the bearing failures. Once an engine has been run any amount of time with gas diluted oil it is ruined. Too bad the manufacturers are not stepping to solve the problem. I guess a lot of the blame could go on the drivers that never check oil level. If you were checking the oil level at every fuel up you would have noticed the rising oil level and gas smell on the dip stick and had the HPFP (that is dripping gas into your crankcase oil) replaced before it was too late. Once the damage is done nothing you can do but replace or rebuild the engine. Sad part is that this is still happening in 2018 with brand new vehicles. CHECK YOUR ENGINE OIL PEOPLE you have some responsibility here also!

I have received a notice of this recall on my 2011 Equinox and have just started to have what seems to be an exhaust leak in the front and terrible noise. Would this issue be related to the fuel pump?
oemdtc
Most likely not…

Yes I have a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. In May this year my car made a funny clacking noise. Well it turned out it was very low on oil. The oil light never came on. However not long afterwards the engine light came on. Took it to Preston Hood. Said it was catalyst converter and that is why it was burning oil. Thank God there ended up being a recall on the converter. Got that fixed. Car still burning oil and lower gas mileage. Used 1 quart for a thousand miles. Preston Hood said this is normal…but Chevy Customer Service said it should burn 1 quart for 2 thousands miles..Then another oil check PH said on the border line. .Then recall on high pressure fuel pump. Got it fixed..Now Preston Hood wants to do another oil consumption test. How do I know that the piston shaft and the seal are not ruined by the faulty converter and fuel pump. I think I am getting. The runaround.

I’m having the SAME problem in my 2010!!! Have you received any help/direction on this issue? Did the dealer/Chevrolet cover the costs of the repair?
Ssmith
I ended up having to replace my whole engine in my 2011. Bad catalytic converter, piston rings were shot and the timing chain went out. The 2011 2.4 eco tech is the worst engine ever.

I’m having such a hard time getting this approved for my 2011 Buick LaCrosse CXL 2.4L engine RPO LAF WITH ONLY 29,900 as of today 12/12/16. They have this recall only for 2010-2011 Chevrolet Equinox & GMC Terrain and not the 2011 Buick LaCrosse with the same exact engine and the same exact problems and symptoms. My Buick LaCrosse has the same engine RPO LAF. I’ve spoken to Christene, Charles, and even a senior advisor and I’m still hitting a brick wall. First of all there was a SpecialCoverage 12313 Balance Shaft Chain and High Pressure Fuel Pump then it got updated to 12313B then to 12313C that eliminated the High Pressure Fuel Pump and now added to the 12313C with Voluntary Emissions Recall 43180 Product Emission Recall-High Pressure Fuel Pump-2010-2011 Chevy Equinox & GMC Terrain with engine RPO LAF but didn’t add the 2011 Buick LaCrosse with the same engine code RPO LAF. Am I wrong for asking them this? My car is sitting right now at Caribbean Auto GM http://www.caribbeanautogm.com/ and it’s been there the past 6 days and nothing has been done to it even when it has other approved warranties. Somebody get in touch with them, give them the approval they need and I need to get my car going. This is just taking too long I can’t drive my Buick because IT WON’T EVEN SHUT OFF because of the smell of fuel in the OIL. The oil smells soo strong like gasoline that the engine keeps on running even after I shut it off. The only way I can shut it off is putting it on DRIVE and then shutting it off. Come on now, and the last senior advisor I spoke with her first words when she greated me was, OK let’s see what your crying about.
Dam I’ve owned GM vehicles my whole life but this experience is not what I was expecting back from GM customer service.

I am the current & ORIGINAL owner of my 2011 GMC Terrain having the 4cyl. motor. It has currently 72xxxmiles on the odometer. Since my 1st free dealer oil/filter change( after break-in)…all went well. approx. 1yr. AFTER purchase & a complete (owner performed) oil/filter change I noticed my oil dipstick showed VERY low oil. This was approx. after 1 month & approx. 1500 mi. after this oil/filter change. I added a little over 1qt. synthetic oil to the crankcase bringing up the oil register to Full…..as I do my own oil changes on all my cars for 40+years. Since that shock to find my oil level less than full, I continued to watch over my crankcase oil level. Over the past 3yrs. I have frequently had to ADD approx. 1qt. or MORE to the crankcase approx. every 5-700 miles..! I always change my oil/filter every 5,000 mi…..note: during this 5,000 mi. I find that I have added at least 4qt’s.+ of fresh oil…!..and IT IS always BLACK in color !! YES…the oil IS ALWAYS watery thin apparently due to the dilution of petrol…! My dealer wants me to bring the car in for an oil change/incl. filter of course at MY expense to have the car returned to dealer at considerable distance of nearly 60mi. rd.trip back to my residence… As long as there IS a valid recall over this issue why do I have to keep returning to the dealer for this oil level check to validify a problem that has existed for 3+ years since 1st notoced…?? Why cannot GM and or the dealer just fix the problem whether an engine rebuild is necessary or not..? I still have the GM letter advising of this recall…!
