Summary
This Preliminary information communicates an issue with the battery goes dead and provides diagnostics tips on inspecting the LIN bus.
Condition
Some customers may comment of a dead battery. In addition to the dead battery, they may comment on any of the following items:
– Slow engine crank
– Auto Start/Stop feature inoperative, if equipped
– Radio stays on or fading out very slowly after ignition is turned off and RAP has been cancelled
– Front or rear heated seats inoperative
– DTC’s U1524, U1526, U1555, U155D
Cause
The cause of these concerns could be the BCM staying awake due to an input from a LIN Bus. It can be difficult to diagnose these types of cases. Many are misdiagnosed as the BCM being at fault and it is then unnecessarily replaced. There are two known areas that have been found, which can short out LIN Bus circuits 6133 and/or 4115 for the front/rear heated seats. If this happens, it can cause the BCM to stay awake and draw down the battery.
NOTE: Even if a truck is NOT equipped with rear heated seats, these circuits are still in the harness.

It can be diffcult to diagnose these types of cases. Many are misdiagnosed as the BCM being at fault and it is then unnecessarily replaced. There are two known areas that have been found, which can short out LIN Bus circuits 6133 and/or 4115 for the front/rear heated seats (example Document ID 4938095). If this happens, it can cause the BCM to stay awake and draw down the battery. NOTE: Even if a truck is NOT equipped with rear heated seats, these circuits are still in the harness. Correction: Inspect the two following areas: 1. Inspect under the left rear seat (1) for the body harness being pinched where the seat back is attached to the back of cab, as shown below. Call out 2 is connector X370 and this picture was taken from a truck which did not have rear heated seats. In this scenario, LIN Bus circuit 6133 was shorted to the B+ circuit in the harness. 2. Inspect connector X225 for terminal issues/corrosion (3), as shown below. In this scenario, the LIN Bus circuit 4115 was corroded and shorting to other terminals in the connector. If corrosion is found at X225 inspect for a water leak. One known leak location is the A pillar grommet for the door pass through connector not being fully seated. If any issues are found then follow SI Wiring and Connector repair instructions to correct the concern.
