A taillight that fails to illuminate or illuminates incorrectly may reduce the visibility of the vehicle, or communicate incorrect information to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022 GMC Hummer EV vehicles. Taillight software can cause one or both rear taillights to become inoperative, or remain fully or partially illuminated. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace as necessary, the left and/or right rear taillight assemblies. Owner notification letters were not required but all vehicles were remedied as of March 17, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM’s number for this recall is N222359830.

Condition
General Motors has decided that certain 2022 model year GMC Hummer EV vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, “Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.” In these vehicles, embedded software in the taillamps can cause one or both rear taillamps to (a) become inoperative or (b) remain fully or partially illuminated. If the taillamp is inoperative, all taillamp functions (brake light, turn signal, backup lamp, side marker, clearance lamp, and tail light) will be disabled. If a taillamp remains fully or partially illuminated, some or all of these taillamp functions will remain activated at all times, even after the vehicle is turned off. A taillamp that fails to illuminate or illuminates incorrectly may reduce the visibility of the vehicle or communicate incorrect information to other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.
Correction
Dealers are to inspect and/or replace the left and or right taillamps.
