Page 2 January 2015 Bulletin No.: 14515B CONDITION General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2013 – 2014 model year Cadillac CTS, Escalade, and Escalade ESV; Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe vehicles; and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles and certain 2014 model year Buick Enclave; Chevrolet Express and Captiva, Impala Limited, Silverado HD and Traverse; and GMC Acadia, Savana, Canyon, and Sierra HD vehicles. Some of these vehicles were built or serviced with contamination within the chassis electronic module. This contamination can cause an electrical short in the module. If the module experiences an electrical short, the vehicle could display a check engine light, stall, or fail to start. If the vehicle is equipped with a trailer brake, the vehicle could lose trailer brake function and display a “Service Trailer Brake System” indicator. If the vehicle experiences this condition and stalls while in motion, there could be an increased risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, a small number of 2007-2012 model year vehicles such as 2008-2013 Chevrolet Avalanche, 2009-2012 Chevrolet Colorado, 2007-2013 Chevrolet Silverado, 2008-2014 Suburban and Tahoe, 2007-2013 GMC Sierra, 2008-2014 Yukon, 2009-2012 GMC Canyon; 2008-2009 HUMMER H2, 2009-2010 H3 and H3T; 2008-2009 Saturn VUE, and 2009 Outlook models may have been serviced with a chassis electronic module that could have internal contamination, causing an electrical short in the module.. If the module experiences an electrical short, the vehicle could display a check engine light, stall, or fail to start. If the vehicle experiences this condition and stalls while in motion, there could be an increased risk of a vehicle crash. CORRECTION Dealers are to replace the chassis electronic module on all affected vehicles. VEHICLES INVOLVED All involved vehicles are identified by Vehicle Identification Number on the Investigate Vehicle History screen in GM Global Warranty Management system. Dealership service personnel should always check this site to confirm vehicle involvement prior to beginning any required inspections and/or repairs. It is important to routinely use this tool to verify eligibility because not all similar vehicles may be involved regardless of description or option content. For dealers with involved vehicles, a listing with involved vehicles containing the complete vehicle identification number, customer name, and address information has been prepared and will be provided to US and Canadian dealers through the GM GlobalConnect Recall Reports, or sent directly to export dealers. Dealers will not have a report available if they have no involved vehicles currently assigned. The listing may contain customer names and addresses obtained from Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any purpose other than follow-up necessary to complete this recall is a violation of law in several states/provinces/countries. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this report to the follow-up necessary to complete this recall. PART INFORMATION Parts required to complete this recall are to be obtained from General Motors Customer Care and Aftersales (GMCCA). For parts currently under open ordering, please refer to your “involved vehicles listing” before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Page 3 January 2015 Bulletin No.: 14515B Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order. For owners outside these areas, dealers should notify customers using the attached sample letter. DEALER RECALL RESPONSIBILITY – For US and Export (US States, Territories, and Possessions) It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or any new or used item of motor vehicle equipment (including a tire) covered by this notification under a sale or lease until the defect or noncompliance is remedied. Page 7 January 2015 Bulletin No.: 14515B The US National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act provides that each vehicle that is subject to a recall of this type must be adequately repaired within a reasonable time after the customer has tendered it for repair. A failure to repair within sixty days after tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. If the condition is not adequately repaired within a reasonable time, the customer may be entitled to an identical or reasonably equivalent vehicle at no charge or to a refund of the purchase price less a reasonable allowance for depreciation. To avoid having to provide these burdensome remedies, every effort must be made to promptly schedule an appointment with each customer and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. In the recall notification letters, customers are told how to contact the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration if the recall is not completed within a reasonable time. DEALER RECALL RESPONSIBILITY – All All unsold new vehicles in dealers’ possession and subject to this recall must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this recall bulletin before customers take possession of these vehicles. Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this recall at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward. Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which there is no customer information indicated on the dealer listing, are to be contacted by the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. A copy of the customer letter is provided in this bulletin for your use in contacting customers. Recall follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter. In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this recall enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your dealership for service in the future, you must take the steps necessary to be sure the recall correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle. GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a “do-it-yourselfer”. They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the tools, equipment, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. My 2014 Chevy Silverado is having this exact issue, but the issue does not come up when I type in the VIN.
My call stalled in the middle of the road this past Memorial Day Weekend, and I almost died. Total power failure–could not turn on the hazards or open the door–and was nearly T-boned.
Have called GM every day since, and have been given the complete runaround. Have taken the car to 3 different Chevy dealers/repair shops, paid the diagnostic fee each time, only to be told that they could not duplicate the issue.
I have been loyal to Chevy, and have only bought Chevy. I expected better than this, and now just hope that my loyalty does not result in my preventable death.
Please help.
File a complaint with the NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/
My 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is having a problem that the electric goes off and on when driving on the highway after hitting the brake pedal. This is intermittent and does not happen all of the time. It seems very dangerous, sometimes when it happens the door locks go up and down. I talked to the Chevrolet dealer in Tempe, Freeway Chevrolet, and they stated this was not part of this recall. I would think that Chevrolet would be glad to fix it before a crash, sort of like Toyota should of fixed their braking and acceleration problem before so many crashes. Is it true that even if the truck is having the same problem as the recall, which is a safety recall, it may not be covered for it is not listed?
You can make a complaint with the NHTSA https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/, Take to another dealer or another shop and have them record any dts if any are stored in ABS
I Have a 2008 Chevrolet 2500 HD Duramax that gets a service trailer brake system once in awhile (Sometimes when connected to trailer, sometimes not) I had my dealer check #14515b recall. He said it didn’t involve my vin. How is it determined which vin is involved?
