Summary
THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE TECHNICIAN THAT SOME OWNERS MAY NOTICE AT ROUGHLY 3/4 OF THE WAY THROUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TRAVEL THERE IS A CLICK FELT IN THE PEDAL ALSO THE PEDAL GETS HARDER TO PUSH. PLEASE COMMUNICATE TO THE CUSTOMER THIS CONDITION IS A NORMAL OPERATING CHARACTERISTIC OF THEIR VEHICLE. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DESIGN HAS CHANGED FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 8-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION REGULAR PRODUCTION OPTION CODE MRC.
Condition/Concern
Some owners may notice at roughly 3/4 of the way through the accelerator pedal travel there is a detent/click felt in the pedal with increased resistance.
The accelerator pedal design has changed for vehicles equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission (RPO MRC).
The new accelerator pedal design has a built-in detent position that can be noticed at roughly 3/4 pedal travel.
The detent provides feedback to the operator to minimize transmission downshifting, allowing for improved fuel economy, smoother operation, etc.
Pressing up to the detent will allow a more relaxed acceleration rate.
When pressing through the detent, the transmission will downshift aggressively allowing for an increased acceleration rate.
Recommendation/Instructions
Important: DO NOT replace any parts for this condition.
This is a normal operating characteristic of the vehicle and no repair attempts should be performed.
Customer Information
Please communicate to the customer this condition is a normal operating characteristic of their vehicle. It will not impact the designed performance or reliability of the vehicle. Please share this information with the customer, including a copy of this message.
