Condition
Squeak, squawk, creak or popping noise in the rear of the vehicle when cornering or pulling into driveways.
Cause
The creak noise is created from the manufacturing process when the rear axle round tube is compressed to a U shape pattern. When the rear axle twists, the inner axle tube wall rubs on the outer wall. To fix the creak noise, a dry lubricant has been added during manufacturing. See the red arrows in the illustration above for rubbing areas.

Cause The creak noise is created from the manufacturing process when the rear axle round tube is compressed to a U shape pattern. See the red arrows in the illustration above for rubbing areas. Correction If you encounter a vehicle with the above concern, complete the following steps: 1. Have the customer demonstrate the noise they are hearing. Note: Some vehicles will be louder than others and as the vehicle is driven the noise will fade away. 2. Put the vehicle on the hoist with the rear wheels supported. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in SI. 1 3. Pull down on one side to get the axle to twist. The creak noise should be heard or felt as indicated in the above illustration areas. 4. If the noise is verified, replace the rear axle. Refer to Rear Axle Replacement in SI. Note: If the noise is not originating from the rear axle, refer to normal diagnosis referring to SI.
