Summary
This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that the blower motor may be noisy or vibrate when running. This concern will only occur when the temperatures is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit and if the blower motor is removed while still cold, ice may be found on the blower motor cage. This concern could be caused by water leaking or snow ingestion into the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning case. Technician is to perform normal water testing diagnostics while the Heater-Vent-Air Conditioning is running, looking for water leaking past the plenum cover. If water is leaking past the cover remove the cover and install a 12×12 snow resistant screen to the fresh air intake. Reseal and install the plenum cover cap using Kent air dry sealer or equivalent.

Condition / Concern
When the HVAC blower motor is running, it is noisy or may vibrate.
This concern will only occur when temperatures are below 32 deg F (0 deg C). If the blower motor is removed while it is still cold, ice may be found on the blower motor cage.
If the cabin air filter is removed while still cold, snow and/or ice may be found on the filter. This concern could be caused by either a water leak into the HVAC case or snow ingestion into the HVAC case.
Note: Some snow on the cabin filter is normal.

- Bosch HEPA Premium Cabin Air Filters are designed and tested to meet High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) standards based on ISO 29463-3:2011 and provide filtration efficiency of 99.97% at 0.3 microns
- This efficiency provides ultimate protection in trapping particulates that can enter your vehicle and provides the cleanest air possible for you and your family
- Melt-blown electrostatic layer and very dense media provide greater trapping capabilities; Additional static cotton layer added to the HEPA media provides higher capacity
- Structural ribs incorporated into design ensure filter integrity, increasing the stability of the filter for optimum performance over its lifetime
- Bosch HEPA Cabin Air Filters provide true clean air for enhanced respiratory health without an added chemical odor neutralizer; Cabin air filters should be replaced at least once every 12 months (or every 12K miles)
- Effective Protection: Soda woven combined with activated carbon effectively captures contaminants that cause odors and offers clean and fresh breeze air for drivers and passengers. The cabin air filter offers exceptional protection in your vehicle interior.
- Efficient Filtration: Particles are prevented from entering the cabin by a close-meshed, non-woven filter layer that protects your engine from wear to extend the life of your vehicle's system. It also optimizes air conditioning and heating systems, ensuring high flow capacity.
- Enhances HVAC performance: It is recommended to replace your cabin air filter every year or every 12,000 miles. Those driving in heavily polluted areas or on dirt roads should change it every 5,000 miles for optimal performance.
- Easy to Install: Puroma cabin air filter is a perfect fit and takes only 10 minutes to install. With an easy-to-read airflow arrow on the side, the installation process is a breeze. Please check if this filter matches your car in the upper left corner before purchasing to ensure the part will fit your vehicle.

Please discard PIT5245C. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition / Concern Some owners may comment that when the HVAC blower motor is running, it is noisy or may vibrate. Recommendations / Instructions 1. Perform normal water testing diagnostics while the HVAC is running (high blower and in fresh/outside air mode). Inspect for any water leaking past the plenum cover cap, as shown below (1). Water could drip off the bottom of the plenum cover cap (1) into the HVAC fresh air inlet, as shown below (2). 2. If water is leaking past the plenum cover cap (1) it will need to be removed and resealed. While the plenum cover cap is removed also complete the next steps to add a low pressure drop fine snow resistant screen over the fresh air inlet to prevent snow ingestion. 3. Install a 12″ x 12″ snow resistant screen material over the HVAC fresh air inlet (2), as shown below. The water resistant screen can be ordered from Outerwears at www.outerwears.com or by calling 800-967-3450. When searching for the product on the website, use part number WR12 and then select color Black (WR12BK). 4. Secure the snow resistant screen with 7 clips, part number 11588650, to the HVAC fresh air inlet (2), as shown below. 5. Reinstall plenum cover cap, insure cover is flat and free of damage, using Kent air dry sealer or RTV around the perimeter of the plenum cover cap. Allow sealer to dry following manufactures recommendations. 6. Confirm there are no leaks by repeating step 1. This will not be published in the Labor Time Guide. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
