Summary
This informational bulletin provides a procedure to install an isolator over the valve cover if found missing and corrects the customers concern.
Condition
Some customers may comment that they hear a tick or rattle type noise coming from the engine compartment
– This noise may be noticeable on the top of the engine near the left or right-side rocker cover area.
Cause
This condition may be caused by the left or right side rocker cover insulator.
– For a short period of time the insulator was manufactured without the fiberglass insulation (as indicated in the graphic below) that is used to reduce the normal engine valvetrain noise. This was due to an unavoidable supply shortage issue. Without this fiberglass insulation an increase in valvetrain noise on that bank may be noticeable.
Correction
If you encounter a vehicle with this condition and the noise is unacceptable to the customer, you can install a service cover which has the insulation attached to the insulator to help reduce the valvetrain noise.
