Preliminary Information
PIP5744A Bolt EV Transmission Fluid Leak at Drain Plugs
Models
Brand: Model: Model Years:
VIN:
Engine: Transmissions:
from to
Chevrolet Bolt 2020 All All All All
Involved Region or Country North America
Condition
While performing other repairs or inspections, the technician may notice a small transmission fluid drip around the drain plug. There
may be oil found in the air deflector panel upon removal. At this time, customers are not likely to observe this issue directly.
Cause Drain plugs did not meet dimensional requirements.
Correction:
Tighten the plugs as shown below.
Contact GM Technical Assistance via DCM to advise that a Bolt EV was found with this condition for documentation. Use the suggested labor operation code below
for air deflector removal (1430300).
Purpose : Increase engagement of one thread pitch with additional sealant by adding Loctite 565 and tightening (Rotation Angle : 380 – 400 degrees)
Retrofit plugs (4 locations) Image (1)
– 1 plug on gear box (#1)
– 3 plugs on end cover (#2,#3,#4)
A) Inline Plug and cover for start point B) Position of plug line to be in marked range
2) Limit band for final angle.
Step 1 : Make line on plug head and cover to mark starting point.
Step 2 : Add loctite 565 all the way around base of plug (per pictures above)
Step 3 : Tighten with appropriate ratchet wrench by rotating plug and additional 380-400 deg. (do not remove plug)
Step 4 : Check the line is within angle limit band.
Step 5 : Record checking results and torque value
4) Wrench socket has two lines.
5) Mark on plug edge.
6) Mark on cover / gearbox.
7) Align black line on the socket to park marking.
8) Tighten the plug 380-400 degrees (until red line meets cover marking.
9) Remove the wrench socket and check the angles of parts marking.
10) To gain access for inspection of plug 1 remove front compartment air deflector. (See also SI Service Document 4533740).
0) To gain access for inspection of plugs 2, 3 and 4 remove left front wheelhouse liner. (See also SI Service Document 4533734)
