PIP5583 Engine Squeak or Squeal Noise Coming From the Water Pump

| Condition | Some customers may comment that there is a slight squeak or squeal noise coming from the front of engine belt area. This noise may or may not be present at the time vehicle comes in. |
| Cause | This condition may be caused by lack of coolant (lubricant) at the water pump seal mating surfaces. |
Correction
If this condition is found, perform the following procedure and reevaluate.
- Listen to the water pump with a stethoscope or chassis ears to see if the suspect noise is heard for later comparison.
NOTE: Please follow the remaining steps even if you can’t hear the noise at this time.
- Remove engine cover.
- Remove inlet duct from throttle body and air cleaner box.
- Remove bracket on top of water pump.
- Put 3-4 drops of coolant in the vent hole as shown in illustration below.
Do not add more coolant than recommended at this time.
Note: Be careful to not get any coolant on the pulley or drive belt.
- Reassemble components that were previously removed.
- Start vehicle and con rm that squeak/squeal noise is gone.
- If noise is still present repeat step 5 and reevaluate.
- If noise is still there it will be necessary to replace water pump assembly.
Note: This is a preliminary temporary diagnostic and repair.
As more investigation information becomes available this PI will be updated or advanced to a bulletin.
