Manufacturer Communication Number: PIP4112S
Summary
This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician of a complaint of a sag or hesitation when accelerating. The concern is present when coasting at low speeds of less than 15 miles per hour and then aggressively applying the throttle, or after making a hard stop followed by an aggressive throttle. This concern may also be present while crusing at highway speeds and then an aggressive increase in throttle. This is considered normal operation of the vehicle the throttle is delayed and opened slowly up to .7 seconds to help minimize driveline lash and clunking or will have approximately .5 seconds of zero torque to allow the transmission to shift to downshift.

Condition / Concern
Some customers may comment on a sag or hesitation when accelerating under the following conditions:
When coasting at low speeds of less than 15 miles per hour with a closed throttle and then aggressively applying the throttle. Examples of this maneuver include a rolling stop or a lane change maneuver. In this type of maneuver, even though the accelerator is applied aggressively, the throttle blade is opened slowly for up to 0.7 seconds to help minimize drive-line lash and clunking. Also in a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission when making a hard, complete stop with a closed throttle, immediately followed by an aggressive throttle opening the transmission down-shifts may not be completed by the time the throttle is opened.
As a result approximately 0.5 seconds of ″zero″ torque may be commanded to allow the shift to first gear to occur.
Customers may also comment on a sag or hesitation while cruising at highway speeds and then aggressively increasing the throttle forcing a down-shift.
This type of driving maneuver may result in approximately 0.5 seconds of ″zero″ torque being commanded to allow the down-shift to complete.
Recommendations / Instructions
All of the above conditions are a result of Torque Management and all of these conditions should be considered normal and no repairs should be attempted.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step.
If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM’s avoidance of responsibility will prevent me from getting another GM vehicle even though I have yet to experience these particular problems on my 05 LXR. GM’s refusal to let any aftermarket company produce headlight assemblies that are clearly defective and GM no longer produces for a car that cost nearly $100,000 is reason enough to abandon GM.
Sorry but this is a BS explanation. My wife’s Captiva 3.0L sags to the point is unsafe to drive. It almost stalls during low speed maneuvers and when pulling out in front of oncoming traffic. I have driven several other GM 3.0/3.6L models with the same issue though not as bad as mine. Two dealerships have shown me the same explanation as if this will in some way justify a known problem. In reality it makes really easy to buy something other than GM vehicles in the future. This is the last GM vehicle in my driveway and I can’t wait to get rid of it.
